Is all shockwave therapy the same?

No. We use Swiss Doloclast machine, which is the gold standard device, used in over 80% of peer-reviewed studies in medical journals globally. The quality, accuracy and impact of the acoustic wave is not the same from all Shockwave devices.

How often can you have shockwave therapy?

We recommend treatment frequency of five to seven days apart.

Who uses Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave therapy can be used to treat a wide range of chronic tendon or muscular injuries – including Achilles tendinopathy, plantar fasciitis, heel spur pain, jumper’s knee, shin splints, gluteal tendinopathy, tennis elbow, golfers’ elbow, shoulder tendinopathy (with calcification), and frozen shoulder.

What is involved in a shockwave therapy session?

Your physiotherapist will assess your condition, and decide the right dosage for you. We will also give you some home based exercise to increase the strength and resilience of the recovering soft tissue.

What kind of recovery can I expect from shockwave therapy?

It depends on the type of injury, and how long you have had the injury for. Most patients will notice some pain relief immediately after their first session, others can take up a few more sessions to achieve significant pain relief. The average number of treatments is three to five sessions.

How much does it cost?

The use of electrotherapy treatment (except for shockwave therapy) is included in your standard physiotherapy consultation.

The cost of shockwave therapy is the cost of one of our standard consultations, plus a surcharge ($50). As your electrotherapy treatment is performed by a qualified physiotherapist, private health rebates and Medicare (EPC plan) can be utilised towards to cost of these treatments.

Do you accept GPMP (formerly EPC - Enhanced Primary Care Plan)?

Yes we do! If your GP has referred you to us, we accept the GP management plan as part of your treatment and rehabilitation.

Can I claim my Private Health Insurance?

Yes. We are also preference providers for Medibank and NIB.

Do I need to have x-rays or scans done before I come to a physiotherapist?

You don’t need to have scans done before attending. Our physiotherapists will assess your condition, and can advise for scan if appropriate.
