PILATES MYTHS Q&AS

1. Pilates is for women’s only! (FALSE!)

NO!! Pilates is inclusive for all genders and body-types!!  In fact, Pilates was invented by a male Joseph Hubertus in Germany 1883, his idea of Pilates was shaped by his work with injured soldiers during the world war. Also, some of the most high-level athletes also do Pilates including AFL, NRL and Soccer stars to help strengthen and maintain their flexibility. A few examples include Hayden Ballantyne, Nicho Hynes & Cristiano Ronaldo.

2. Doing pilates once a week won’t help me

Well … according to a study in 2016, participating in an hour Pilates class once a week for ten weeks can significantly improve your muscle mass, balance, flexibility, core- and abdominal muscle strength. It also reported improved mood and body awareness in sedentary women.

3. Pilates is SO EASY! (FALSE!)

The most common myth is Pilates is easy or just a stretch. Pilates is a gentle and low impact exercise however when done with the correct techniques, can be the hardest thing you do. Even the highest and fittest athletes find it challenging. If it’s too easy, let your instructor know, we can always make it HARDER and more CHALLENGING!!!

Many people believe Pilates is just for the young generation however Pilates has demonstrated multiple advantages for the elderly due to it being low impact and easy modifiable to suit any fitness level.
